Detailed Crochet Dress Pattern

Materials

  • Yarn (details in the description box)
  • Hook
  • Scissors

Initial Steps

  1. Create the Foundation Chain:
    • Make a slip knot.
    • Work a chain in multiples of 7 + 6 until it wraps around your bust.
    • Slip stitch into your first chain, ensuring the chain is not twisted.
  2. Round 1:
    • Chain 5 (the first 3 chains count as one double crochet).
    • Double crochet into the same chain.
    • Chain 2.
    • Work 3 double crochet together: yarn over, insert the hook into the next chain, draw up a loop, pull through two loops (repeat until you have 4 loops on the hook), and pull through all loops.
    • Chain 2 and double crochet in the same stitch.
    • Repeat this pattern for the whole round.
    • At the end, work the last 3 double crochet together and finish off by inserting the hook into the third chain of the beginning chain and pulling through all loops.
  3. Round 2:
    • Chain 5 (first 3 chains count as a double crochet).
    • Double crochet in the same stitch.
    • Chain 2.
    • Work 3 double crochet together as described in Round 1.
    • Continue the pattern around and end the round as in Round 1.
  4. Rounds 3 Onwards:
    • Repeat the same pattern as Round 2 until the piece stretches from your underarm to waist. Ensure to stretch it adequately as the weight of the skirt might lower its final length.

Waist and Skirt

  1. Transition to Waist:
    • Chain 1.
    • Work single crochet in each chain and stitch or 3 single crochets in each chain space.
    • Without slip stitching, continue with another round of single crochets.
    • For the third round, chain 3 and work cross double crochets (skip first two stitches, double crochet into the third, chain 1, double crochet back into the first skipped stitch, repeat).
  2. Round 4:
    • Chain 1.
    • Work single crochet in each stitch around.
  3. Further Rounds:
    • For another round, continue with single crochets. Finish off by slip stitching into the first stitch of the round.

Shell Pattern:

  1. Round 6 Onwards:
    • Chain 5 (counts as a double crochet).
    • Double crochet into the same stitch.
    • Chain 2.
    • Work 3 double crochets together.
    • Chain 2 and double crochet in the same stitch.
    • Follow this pattern similar to the top part of the dress till the end.
    • Repeat pattern for three more rounds after finishing this round.

Increment Rounds:

  1. Round 11:
    • Chain 5.
    • Double crochet in the same stitch.
    • Chain 2.
    • Work 3 double crochet together.
    • Chain 2.
    • Double crochet in the same stitch, and another double crochet on the same stitch to increase.
    • Continue the pattern around.
  2. Rounds 12 to 15:
    • Chain 5.
    • Follow the same pattern as in previous rounds but without increasing.
    • Continue the pattern around.

Finishing Rounds:

  1. Rounds 13 to end:
    • Repeat the increase pattern for one round, followed by four rounds without increase.
    • Continue this pattern until the desired length is reached.
  2. Final Round:
    • Chain 1.
    • Work single crochet in each stitch around.
    • Cut and secure the yarn.

Edging:

  1. Top Edging:
    • Attach yarn.
    • Chain 1.
    • Work one single crochet in each stitch around.
    • Without slip stitching, work another round of single crochets.
  2. Color Variation:
    • Optionally, add another round with a different yarn color.
  3. Neck and Waist String:
    • Make chains using a triple or double pull technique.
    • Weave the string through the double crochet rounds for closure.
