Crochet Your Pufferfish Pouch

Materials Needed:

  • Yarn in 4 colors (preferably 5 blme moton)
  • Crochet hook (3.5 mm or 4 mm)
  • 10 or 12 mm safety eyes
  • Hot glue gun or multi-purpose glue
  • Needles and scissors
  • Stitch markers

Abbreviations:

  • ch: chain
  • st: stitch
  • sl st: slip stitch
  • sc: single crochet
  • dc: double crochet
  • tr: triple crochet
  • inc: increase (2 stitches in the same stitch)
  • yo: yarn over

Step by step Instruction

Body:

  1. Round 1:
    • Start with a slip knot and chain 12.
    • Skip the first two chains, make 2 dc in the third chain.
    • 1 dc in each of the next 8 chains.
    • 3 dc in the last chain.
    • Continue on the other side of the chains: 1 dc in each of the next 8 chains.
    • 1 dc in the last stitch, ending with a slip stitch (22 dc total).
  2. Round 2:
    • Ch 2, make 2 dc in the first stitch (dc increase) for 2 stitches.
    • 1 dc in each of the next 8 stitches.
    • Make 2 dc in the next 3 stitches.
    • 1 dc in each of the next 8 stitches.
    • 2 dc in the last stitch. Change color to yellow before the slip stitch (34 dc total).
  3. Round 3:
    • Ch 2, 1 dc in the first stitch, 2 dc in the next (repeat this for 2 stitches).
    • 1 dc in each of the next 8 stitches.
    • Repeat the pattern (1 dc, 2 dc) for 3 stitches.
    • 1 dc in each of the next 8 stitches.
    • 1 dc and 2 dc in the last stitch. (34 dc total).
  4. Round 4:
    • Ch 2, 1 dc in each stitch. Slip stitch to complete.
  5. Round 5: Spikes
    • Ch 1, sc in the first four stitches, change color to blue at the fourth.
    • Make 1 tr, changing to yellow for the last pull-through. Continue round.
  6. Round 6:
    • Ch 2, 1 dc in each stitch.
  7. Round 7: Spikes
    • Similar to Round 5, but positioned between spikes of the previous round. Start with 1 sc then 1 tr, repeat pattern.
  8. Rounds 8-11:
    • Continue alternating between rounds of double crochets and rounds with spikes as described above.

Mouth and Eyes:

  • Create a small loop with pink yarn for the mouth and attach it using glue.
  • Attach safety eyes on the head part.

Fin:

  • Chain 5, skip 2 and make 1 dc in the next 3 chains.
  • Cut a long tail for sewing.

Strap:

  • Chain 70 for the strap.
  • Weave in and out through stitches around the top edge.

Final Assembling:

  • Sew the fins on round 5 and 6 of the body.
  • Insert the strap through the loops at the top and secure.
