How To Crochet Flower Bouquet Coaster

Materials Needed

  • Medium weight worsted yarn in four colors: base color, green for the leaves, and two colors for the flowers
  • 4 mm crochet hook
  • Tapestry needle
  • Scissors
  • Stitch marker

Step by step Instructions

Base

  1. Magic Circle:
    • Start with a magic circle.
    • Chain 1 to secure the circle.
  2. Round 1:
    • Chain 1 more.
    • Make 12 double crochet stitches in the magic circle.
    • Pull the yarn tail to tighten the circle.
    • Slip stitch to the first stitch to join (12 double crochet stitches in total).
  3. Round 2:
    • Chain 2 (does not count as a stitch).
    • Insert 2 double crochet stitches into each stitch around.
    • Slip stitch to the first stitch to join (24 double crochet stitches in total).
  4. Round 3:
    • Chain 2.
    • Insert 1 double crochet stitch into the same stitch as the slip stitch, then place 2 double crochet stitches into the next stitch.
    • Repeat this pattern (1 double crochet stitch in one stitch, 2 double crochet stitches in next) all the way around.
    • Slip stitch to the first stitch to join (36 double crochet stitches in total).
  5. Round 4:
    • Chain 2.
    • Insert 1 double crochet stitch into each of the next two stitches, then place 2 double crochet stitches in the next stitch.
    • Repeat this pattern (1 double crochet stitch in the first two stitches, 2 double crochet stitches in the third) all the way around.
    • Slip stitch to the first stitch to join (48 double crochet stitches in total).
    • Chain 1 and fasten off, leaving a tail to weave in the ends.

Leaves

  1. Attach Green Yarn:
    • Make a slip knot with the green yarn.
    • Attach it to any stitch.
  2. Round 5 (Leaf Round):
    • Chain 5.
    • Make one double crochet stitch in the same stitch where yarn was added (this makes a V-stitch).
    • Skip 2 stitches, then make a V-stitch (double crochet, chain 1, double crochet in the same stitch) in the third stitch.
    • Repeat the V-stitch all around, skipping two stitches between each V-stitch.
    • At the end of the round, slip stitch to the third chain of the starting chain-5.
    • Chain 1 and fasten off.

Flowers

  1. Flower Petal Preparation:
    • Make a slip knot with your flower color yarn.
    • Attach it to any V-stitch.
  2. Making Flower Petals:
    • Chain 9.
    • In the second chain from the hook, make a slip stitch followed by two half double crochet stitches in each of the next 7 chains.
    • Slip stitch in the same V-stitch where the yarn was attached.
    • Chain 1, fasten off leaving a long tail for sewing later.
  3. Repeat Flower Petals:
    • Continue adding petals of alternating colors (or same color if preferred) in each V-stitch around the green leaf round.
  4. Sewing the Flowers:
    • Sew the flower petals together by making small stitches to prevent them from opening up.
    • Weave in the yarn ends securely.

Finishing:

  1. Weaving in Ends:
    • Weave in all loose ends using a tapestry needle.
    • Ensure that all parts are secured tightly.

That's it! Your flower coaster is now complete. You can fold it up to transform it into a cute bouquet when it's not in use.
