Round 1:

  1. Make a magic ring with 8 single crochet stitches.
  2. Alternative: Chain 2, then make 8 single crochets into the second chain from the hook.

Round 2:

  1. Insert your hook into the first single crochet stitch and make one single crochet.
  2. Place a stitch marker in this stitch.
  3. Work 2 single crochet stitches in the same stitch (increase).
  4. Repeat increases around for a total of 16 stitches.

Round 3:

  1. Work 7 single crochet stitches, then 1 increase.
  2. Repeat (7 single crochets, 1 increase) around. You should have 18 stitches in total.

Round 4:

  1. Single crochet in each stitch around, maintaining 18 stitches.

Round 5 (Fins and Tail):

  1. 3 single crochet stitches.
  2. Chain 3, work slip stitch into the second chain from the hook, work a single crochet into the next chain, slip stitch into the body (this completes the first fin).
  3. 10 single crochet stitches.
  4. Chain 3, work slip stitch into the second chain from the hook, work a single crochet into the next chain, slip stitch into the body.
  5. 4 single crochet stitches.
  6. Chain 4, work a half double crochet into the second chain from the hook, work a single crochet into the next chain, slip stitch into the last chain, slip stitch into the body (this completes one side of the tail).
  7. Repeat for the other side of the tail.
  8. 1 single crochet stitch.

Round 6 (Color Change to White):

  1. Change to white yarn by frogging the last single crochet stitch midway through and completing it with the white yarn.
  2. Work only in the back loops: 1 slip stitch, the rest single crochet stitches around.
  3. Ensure 10 single crochet stitches between the fins, keeping the fin and tail pushed out as you work.
  4. Cut the blue yarn and tie the loose ends inside the whale.

Placing Eyes:

  1. Insert the safety eyes between rounds 4 and 5, with one stitch between the fin and the eye.

Round 7 (Invisible Decreases):

  1. Work 1 single crochet stitch.
  2. Invisible decrease: Insert hook through the front loops of the next two stitches, yarn under, pull through the first two loops, yarn over, pull through both loops.
  3. Repeat (1 single crochet, 1 invisible decrease) around. You should end up with 12 stitches.

Round 8 (Final Round - More Decreases):

  1. Repeat (1 single crochet stitch, 1 invisible decrease) around. You should end with 8 stitches in total.

Finishing:

  1. Fasten off, leaving a long tail.
  2. Stuff the whale, ensuring it is evenly filled.
  3. Use the long tail to close the opening by weaving through the front loops of the remaining stitches.
  4. Pull tight and secure the yarn inside the whale.
  5. Optionally, add cheeks with some leftover pink yarn.

Your plush whale is complete! Enjoy your adorable creation!
