How To Crochet Couple Mug

Materials:

  • 5 ply milk cotton yarn
  • 3mm crochet hook
  • Scissors
  • Black yarn (for the mouth)
  • Needle
  • Keychain
  • 2 pairs of 6mm plastic eyes
  • 4 pieces of 8x2mm magnets
  • Stitch marker

Steps:

  1. Magic Ring:
    1. Wrap the yarn around your finger to create two loops.
    2. Insert the hook under the first loop and over the second loop.
    3. Chain 1 to secure the ring.
  2. Row 1:
    1. Make 6 single crochets (sc) into the magic ring.
    2. Tighten the ring by pulling the yarn.
  3. Row 2:
    1. Make an increase (2 sc in the same stitch) in each stitch around (12 stitches).
    2. Use a stitch marker to mark the beginning of each row.
  4. Row 3:
    1. Alternate between 1 sc in the next stitch and an increase in the following stitch (18 stitches).
  5. Row 4:
    1. Alternate between 2 sc in the next two stitches and an increase in the following stitch (24 stitches).
  6. Row 5:
    1. Make a single crochet in each stitch (back loop only) around (24 stitches).
  7. Rows 6-9:
    1. Make a single crochet in each stitch around (24 stitches).
  8. Adding Face and Magnets:
    1. Place 6mm plastic eyes between Row 8 and Row 9, 4 stitches apart.
    2. Use black yarn to sew a “V” shape for the mouth.
    3. Secure and cut excess yarn.
    4. Glue 8x2mm magnets to the inside of the mug, making sure to align the poles correctly if making a second mug.
  9. Rows 10-12:
    1. Single crochet all the way around (24 stitches).
  10. Color Change:
    1. Join brown yarn by inserting the hook in the next stitch, yarn over with brown yarn and pull through.
    2. Tie off the previous yarn color and secure both ends.
  11. Row 13:
    1. In brown yarn, single crochet in each stitch (back loop only) around (24 stitches).
  12. Row 14:
    1. Alternate between 2 sc in the next two stitches and a decrease (18 stitches).
  13. Row 15:
    1. Alternate between 1 sc in the next stitch and a decrease (12 stitches).
    2. Stuff the mug with filler.
    3. Cut yarn and pull it through a loop.
  14. Closing the Hole:
    1. Weave the yarn end through the front loops of the remaining stitches and pull tight to close the hole.
    2. Secure and hide the excess yarn.
  15. Handle:
    1. Make a slip knot and chain 11.
    2. Skip the first chain and make 10 sc back down the chain.
    3. Cut the yarn, leaving a long tail for sewing.
    4. Attach the handle to the mug:
      • Top: Between Row 11 and Row 12, 4 stitches from the eyes.
      • Bottom: Between Row 6 and Row 7.
    5. Secure and hide any excess yarn.
